Pet vaccination cats & dogs

To prevent fatal infectious diseases, vaccinations are very important for your pets. An annual booster vaccine generally provides continued immunity.

Vaccines contain weakened or dead variants of viruses. So, when an animal is vaccinated, the body’s immune system reacts by generating a protective mechanism through the formation of antibodies. If the animal is then exposed to the actual disease, these antibodies will prevent the disease from developing.

It is important to remember however that vaccines do not grant / allow lifelong immunity and certain diseases, such as leptospirosis in dogs and flu in cats only carry around 12 months of protection, which is why a yearly booster is recommended. It is also a great opportunity for your pets to get a full health check-up. So, your pets need to get their vaccines on yearly basis even if they live inside the house. The protection period of vaccines differs from one disease to another, which is why a 12-month booster is advisable. It is a must to get a vaccination card for your pet to show you the vaccines to be taken and the boosters needed.
